CORRECTION: Lay it on me

An absurdist riddle: how many times can one rabbi send preview emails that work just fine before she can send an actual email that's not going to work at all? Yeah.

ANYWAY. If you opened the email this morning and couldn't access the survey, try hitting THIS BUTTON

And here's the rest of the email, if you didn't open it yet!

Some exciting news over from Ghost – the nice people who host this newsletter. They've just done a bunch of improvements, some of which are very relevant to us.

I figured: Why not roll that information into some other announcements and reminders? And yes, it's a random day, but there's enough else happening around here these days.

So here are the

annual little clicky box questions!

and to sweeten your incentive for telling me how to make Life is a Sacred Text even more like your ideal publication (by clicking boxes, I'm trying to make this easy for you!)

Five people who fill out the survey* will get to choose between (their choice) a) a year's complimentary subscription to the House of Study OR b) a care package of signed books by me. I will select names on Friday, 12 ET, so fill out by then.

*I'll do a raffle using an online number randomizer to correspond to five survey response numbers.

So please! Fill out this survey!

Last year's info resulted in a number of changes to the newsletter, and the more people who tell me what they like and don't like, the better I can shape this project to the community's wishes. I'm not a mind reader!

Before that, though, know!

  • Commenting should be much better now– please try it out and let me know what you think!
  • You can now test drive the House of Study before you go all in!
  • Evergreen reminder: If you'd like, you can turn off emails, and just read everything online if you'd rather; this applies to both free and House of Study subscriptions (though with the HoS, you always get access to the archives and everything, too.) Scroll down here for info on that.
  • Ghost has now added all sorts of payment methods, so you can now subscribe to the House of Study using CashApp, iDEAL, Wechat, Revolut, Direct Debit, ACH, and a long list of other payment methods.
  • Remember that if you want in to the House of Study and paying isn't for you, email support@lifeisasacredtext.com and we'll hook you up as always.
  • Remember that if you're in a position to sign up for the House of Study, you help make those donated subscriptions possible and enable all the free posts and resources that go out to tens of thousands of people on the regular. As well as getting more transformative, weird, wonderful Torah, access to all the archives, monthly Zoom salons, Ask The Rabbi Q and As, & more more MOAR.

OK: Now PLEASE fill this out–

(and leave your email at the end to WIN STUFF!!)

A note on the subscription model:

I want my work to be as accessible to as many people as possible, in as many ways as possible. That's why the Monday essays are free, and why we donate subscriptions to anyone for whom paying is a barrier to the House of Study posts.

I also believe people should be paid fairly for their work. Needless to say, these two values sometimes seem to be in conflict, but I do what I can to find a fair balance. I offer many resources for free, and charge for others. When you donate generously or pay at the top of our scale, that helps support the work I do, provides access for those who have fewer resources, pays for the infrastructure and the technical and practical support that it takes to do this, and helps us keep the work sustainable. ❤️ 🌱
