Today's going to be an Extra Special Double Thursday– two emails today! Hey, it's a long weekend, space 'em out however you like, just read 'em both as you like!
(I considered just embedding the second into the first but why? You can handle this. 😉)
This first one jumps right into the hard question embedded in the Declaration of Independence (turning 25o this weekend, wild). The one to come in a few hours is more of a slow slide towards the deeper end, and that one is getting shared more broadly.
Regardless, not all of you have signed up for this yet and I am telling you that if you do not know why Mariame Kaba is one of the most important, visionary voices working today then you will understand by the end of this. Not overstating, here.
Finding your role in the work with Mariame Kaba, July 8, 7ET/4PT.
I'm not kidding.
Even if you feel that you have your role in the work this conversation will be worth your time and you will learn so much, as will we all. Click through and just do it already.
"... whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends [Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness], it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government... organizing its powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness...."
I just keep thinking about this line. I've been thinking about it for months, probably for obvious reasons.
I want to open up a conversation that's pretty US-centric, but today's the day for that, and if you're not from here, feel welcome to engage based on the knowledge and wisdom you have from your place (noting that, of course, and the limits of what you do know about how things are here.)
I've also got a little Torah and other goodness and some questions below, if you (from wherever you are) don't want to play with the Declaration (or both/and).
I imagine that in this community are probably a lot of people who might recognize that the current US status quo has become destructive to the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness to the people by and large. (Y'all know I never link capriciously, right? Right.)
But if we accept this premise, then what?
