7 Jewish women

from history that you should know about

7 Jewish women
Ta'anit Asanath Barzani, by Lena Revenko, painted in a classical Persian figurative style. The Kurdish yeshiva head-- the most well-known of our 7-- sits on a raised podium, with a veil covering most but not all of her hair, looking at the viewer, pointing to a passage in an open book. Her students-- male, bearded, smaller, with turbans, sit around her, also with books open, listening.

On Monday, we're going to learn about some more traditional women's ritual practices, so I thought it might be fun to pre-game, if you will, with some stories of distinctive Jewish women throughout history first. I'm aiming, mostly, for some of the lesser-known folks, or to hit some lesser-known details. Curious to know who you know, if you know any of these. (My money is on #6 being the most well-known.)

Thoughts on this format?
